“San Francisco Bay would not be the beautiful natural treasure it is today without Save The Bay’s work since 1961,” said Save The Bay Executive Director David Lewis. “During this 50th Anniversary year, we celebrate changing the course of history by fighting and winning battles against impossible odds to protect and restore San Francisco Bay. Going forward, we have a vision for a healthy and thriving Bay to improve the region’s quality of life and economy; and we truly appreciate the generous support of the BayWood Artists in helping us bring that vision to fruition.”

“Save The Bay is a paragon of environmental activism, possessing a dedicated work ethic and a true sense of professionalism,” said BayWood Artists Chair Sherrill Miller. “The BayWood Artists are honored to partner with Save The Bay to raise funds for and awareness of our beautiful and unique Bay through our annual exhibition and sale.”

Truly “painting for preservation,” each year the BayWood Artists choose a local non-profit organization as the beneficiary of their annual art exhibition and sale. As part of this partnership, the artists will produce a major art exhibition of over 100 paintings, the sales of which will benefit Save The Bay and its programs to reduce Bay pollution, restore 100,000 acres of healthy wetlands and stop inappropriate shoreline development.
We engage more than 25,000 supporters, advocates and volunteers to protect the Bay, and inspire the next generation of environmental leaders by educating thousands of students annually. Save The Bay is proud to have achieved this impressive milestone and remains dedicated to making the Bay cleaner and healthier for people and wildlife.
BayWood Artists, a group of ten distinguished Bay Area plein air painters, is dedicated to preserving the environment for future generations to enjoy. They produce an annual exhibition and sale of paintings at the Bay Model to raise both funds and awareness of Bay Area environmental causes. Each year they donate fifty percent of proceeds from painting sales to an organization that protects the land and environment.

In 2011 BayWood Artists became a 501(c)3 sponsored nonprofit and for the first time are able to accept tax deductible donations to help cover production and promotional costs. Previously the Artists individually absorbed the expense of producing and promoting their shows.

BayWood Artists chose to partner with Save the Bay in celebration of their 50th Anniversary of making waves! They will produce a major art exhibition of over 100 paintings to benefit Save The Bay. The funds raised from sales at this exhibition will benefit preservation and restoration projects.

Since 1997, BayWood Artists has worked to save the lands they love, the first painting group in the San Francisco Bay Area with an environmental mission. This group was established solely to protect and preserve the lands that inspire their art. Bill Long, Chair, Marin Open Space Trust (MOST) says “BayWood Artists dazzling paintings bring beautiful open spaces into our homes. They remind us on even the darkest days of our spectacular surroundings and the need to preserve them for future generations,” about the 2010 BayWood Artists exhibition.

Organizations they have supported include Marin Open Space Trust, Marin Open Space District, Save Mount Diablo, Angel Island Association, Marin Agricultural Land Trust, Russian Riverkeepers, Marin Conservation League, the restoration of Bolinas Lagoon, the Greenbelt Alliance, Fish Friendly Farming, the Marin Bayland Advocates, the Bay Area Ridge Trail and Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. “We were overwhelmed by the response of the public to their works of art – and it was a wonderful way to tell the story of this sacred park,” said Suzanne Badenhoop, President of AIA, of their show with the BayWood Artists.

BayWood Artists is a group of professional landscape painters dedicated to
preserving the environment for future generations to enjoy. Through exhibits and the sale of paintings, BayWood artists focus public attention on, and contributes to, environmentally sensitive projects.
This year, BayWood Artists will raise money to help Marin Open Space address the issues on Ring Mountain in Tiburon. Ring Mountain is home to many special status plants, including the endangered Tiburon Mariposa Lily – known to exist nowhere else on earth. These special plants have adapted to Ring Mountain’s serpentine-derived soils, which are toxic to many other plants. Unfortunately, also adapting to the soil are invasive non-native plants, such as broom and
pampas grass. They threaten the habitat and populations of Ring Mountain’s
unique native flowering plants.

BayWood Artists are Chris Adessa, Christin Coy, Ben Farnham, Jon Francis, Paul,
Kratter, Sherrill Miller, Victoria Mimiaga, Christophe Newhard, Zenaida Mott,
Lissa Nicolaus and Thomas Soltesz. Centered in Marin County and encompassing the Bay Area at large, this thriving group celebrates its 12th Anniversary show this October. There is no other group of plein air painters in the Bay Area whose sole purpose is to protect and preserve the land they capture on canvas.
Among the environmental groups that have benefited from BayWood Artists: Russian Riverkeepers, Marin Open Space District, Marin Agricultural Land Trust, Restoration of Bolinas Lagoon, Greenbelt Alliance, Fish Friendly Farming, Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, Marin Bayland Advocates, Bay Area Ridge Trail, Angel Island and the Save Mount Diablo Association.

MOUNT DIABLO: AS WE SEE IT BayWood Artists Paint for Preservation opens October 24, 2009, with a public reception from 4 P.M. to 6 P.M., and runs through November 21, 2009 in the Bay Model Exhibition Gallery, Marinship Park, Sausalito. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M.

BayWood Artists (BWA) mounts a major art exhibition of over 100 paintings at Sausalito’s Bay Model Exhibition Gallery to help Save Mount Diablo (SMD). The funds raised from sales at this exhibition will go toward SMD open space acquisition. The current fiscal crisis threatens to undermine some of its programs, and we hope the public will respond!

“Save Mount Diablo works to preserve the land on and around Mount Diablo, one of the most significant landscapes in our region,” says Julie Seelen of Save Mount Diablo. “Before its founding in 1971, fewer than 7,000 acres around Mt. Diablo’s summit had been preserved. Since then, working with its partners, open space has grown to more than 90,000 acres in 38 parks. But another 90,000 acres of beautiful natural lands are still at risk of being lost to development. Preserving it takes the passion, skill and influence of an organization like SMD and the support of people like the BayWood Artists and you.” To learn more about Save Mount Diablo, visit www.SaveMountDiablo.org.

BayWood Artists, a group of professional landscape painters, is dedicated to preserving the environment for future generations to enjoy. Through exhibits and painting sales these enthusiastic artists focus public attention on, and raise funds for, environmentally sensitive projects. Fifty percent of the proceeds of each show is donated to an organization committed to preserving the lands that inspire their art. The annual shows are held each October in Sausalito’s Bay Model.

BayWood Artists include Chris Adessa, Christin Coy, Ben Farnham, Jon Francis, Paul Kratter, Sherrill Miller, Victoria Mimiaga, Zenaida Mott and Christophe Newhard. Guest Artists for 2009 are Doug Andelin, Larry Cannon and Richard Schloss. Centered in Marin County and encompassing the Bay Area at large, this thriving group celebrated its Tenth Anniversary last year. Even today there is no other group of Plein Air painters in the Bay Area whose sole purpose is to protect and preserve the land they capture on canvas.

Over the past 11 years, numerous environmentally important groups have benefited from BWA’s efforts. In 2008, Angel Island Association (AIA) teamed up with BayWood for a successful show of paintings of Angel Island State Park. “We were overwhelmed by the response of the public to their works of art – and it was a wonderful way to tell the story of this sacred park,” says Suzanne Badenhoop, President of AIA, of their show with the BayWood Artists.

Previous partnerships with BWA include Russian Riverkeepers, Marin Open Space District, Marin Agricultural Land Trust (M.A.L.T.), Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, Restoration of Bolinas Lagoon, Greenbelt Alliance, Fish Friendly Farming, Marin Bayland Advocates and the Bay Area Ridge Trail.

“Save Mount Diablo works to preserve the land on and around Mount Diablo, one of the most significant landscapes in our region. Before its founding in 1971 less than 7,000 acres around Mt. Diablo’s summit had been preserved. Since then, working with its partners, open space has grown to more than 90,000 acres in 38 parks. But another 90,000 acres of beautiful natural lands are still at risk of being lost to development. Preserving it takes the passion, skill and influence of an organization like SMD and the support of people like the BayWood Artists and you,” says Julie Seelen of Save Mount Diablo. To learn more about Save Mount Diablo, visit www.SaveMountDiablo.org.

BayWood Artists, a group of professional landscape painters, are dedicated to preserving the environment for future generations to enjoy. Through exhibits and painting sales these enthusiastic artists focus public attention on, and raise funds for, environmentally sensitive projects. Fifty percent of the proceeds of each show are donated to an organization committed to preserving the lands that inspire their art.

In 2008 Angel Island Association (AIA) teamed up with BayWood for a successful show of paintings of Angel Island State Park. “We were overwhelmed by the response of the public to their works of art – and it was a wonderful way to tell the story of this sacred park,” says Suzanne Badenhoop, President of AIA, of their show with the BayWood Artists.

Previous partnerships with BWA include Russian Riverkeepers, Marin Open Space District; Marin Agricultural Land Trust, (M.A.L.T.); Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy; Restoration of Bolinas Lagoon; Greenbelt Alliance; Fish Friendly Farming; Marin Bayland Advocates; and the Bay Area Ridge Trail.

Capturing Angel Island:
BayWood Artists Group paint to restore the shore

BayWood Artists is a talented group of professional landscape painters who are dedicated to preserving the environment for future generations to enjoy. Through exhibits and painting sales these enthusiastic and generous artists focus public attention on, and raise funds for, environmentally sensitive projects.

Marking their 10th year anniversary this year, they are joining with Angel Island Association (AIA), a nonprofit organization committed to preserving and protecting the lands and treasures of Angel Island State Park, a place that inspires the art of the BayWood Artists (BWA). AIA will use BayWood’s donations from their art sales of this show to assist the State Park on shoreline restoration and other environmental projects.

According to Dave Gould, Superintendent of California State Parks, “In the days following the Cosco Busan oil spill, marine debris on Angel Island was often coated in spilled oil and had to be collected and disposed of as hazardous material. Our goal for Angel Island State Park is to continue the removal of any oiled debris resulting from the oil spill, and also to organize regular beach clean-ups in order to reduce the everyday impact of marine trash and to facilitate a more efficient clean-up in the event of another oil spill.” With donations to AIA from the BayWood artists’ incredible showcase of plein air paintings featuring Angel Island and the surrounding Bay, this important work can happen. To learn more about Angel Island, visit www.angelisland.org.

Even today there is no other group of plein air painters in the Bay Area whose sole purpose is to protect and preserve the land they capture on canvas. (For a complete list of organizations that have benefited from BayWood’s generosity please visit www.baywoodartists.com) Centered in Marin County and encompassing the Bay Area at large, this thriving group is excited to be partnered with such a wonderful and important non-profit organization such as AIA. BayWood members include Chris Adessa, Christin Coy, Ben Farnham, Jon Francis, Sherrill Miller, Zenaida Mott, Lissa Nicolaus and Thomas Soltesz. Guest Artists for 2008 include Paul Kratter, Victoria Mimiaga and Davis Perkins.

Capturing Angel Island opens October 24, in Sausalito’s Bay Model Exhibition Gallery, with a public opening reception from 6 to 8 pm. Capturing Angel Island is open to the public October 24 through November 22, 2008, Tuesday through Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm in the Bay Model, 2100 Bridgeway, Sausalito.
