“As far back as I can remember I always drew animals and my sport heroes, encouraged and supported by my parents.
I attended Art Center College of Design, where, as an Illustration Major, I further honed my artistic eye and skills. After graduating, I landed my first freelance job with the National Football League and for quite a few years mixed my love of sports and wildlife with other great clients: The Nature Company, various national zoos, the Los Angeles Dodgers (much to my chagrin), and others.
After 22 years of producing commercial art I discovered plein air painting and made a career change; combining my love of art and outdoor landscapes into one. I rely on my graphic foundation and drawing skills when I approach painting in the field. I’m drawn to the ever-changing light of California: from the rugged beauty of the Pacific coastline to the inspiring majesty of the Sierra Nevada.” – Paul Kratter
